Project: Barbie™ Animated Feature Films for DVD

Objectives:

+ Create new, innovative 3D animated filmed entertainment for girls, expanding and leveraging the Barbie™ brand and milieu.
+ Consistently protect and grow the characters, visual identity elements and voice of the Barbie™ world across a series of movies and ancillary products.
+ Assure quality control not only in the films' production value and technical aspects, but also in creative, spanning multiple contributing companies and multiple countries.
+ Deliver the product on time, and keep costs within budget.

Process:

+ Serving as creative producer, spearheaded films’ conceptual development through final script and as-air broadcast draft working with writers, toy designers and animation production team.
+ Acted as liaison among Mattel Toys, Mainframe Animation, Lion’s Gate Entertainment Distribution and Entertainment Rights International distribution.
+ Managed day to day relationship between toy designers and production team.
+ Maintain creative involvement in all aspects of character, costume and background design, modeling, animation, voice talent casting and recording, and music.
+ Acted as supervising producer and scheduler of post production, including sound effects, mixing, media conversion, Quality Control, physical video delivery and archiving.
+ Oversaw DVD feature game development, menu creation and DLT deliverables. 
+ Managed international casting and consistent translation into dozens of languages.
+ Managed delivery of international film version for each title in 28 territories.
+ Established efficiencies to ensure profitability and continued growth, even as budgets for the series are substantial to bring the best-available ingredients to each title.
+ Kept everyone on the team happy and feeling appreciated for their contributions.

Results:

Since 2000, Barbie™ films have collectively sold more than 13 million units domestically, with international distributor Universal Pictures International reporting sales of more than 26 million worldwide. And the success continues; Lions Gate Filmed Entertainment and Mattel Entertainment released the fifth animated film in the Barbie™ Princess franchise, Barbie™ and the Magic of Pegasus, which hit stores on September 20, 2005.

Titles in the series have repeatedly been nominated for and won awards recognizing outstanding animation, voice performance, and overall quality, from the DVD Premiere Awards and VSDA.
